A 26-year-old man was arrested outside Uniondale in the Western Cape on Sunday after he was busted with abalone worth around R1.5m.
The man was caught at a roadblock when police stopped what they said was a “suspicious” Nissan 1-tonner.
“They pulled over the vehicle discovered 73 bags of abalone concealed in the back of the bakkie,” police said.
The man was arrested at the scene.
He was expected to appear in court soon where he would face a charge of illegal possession of abalone.
