Showing its commitment to ensuring safe and healthy environment to its citizens, the Oudtshoorn Municipality hosted the Department of Water Affairs at its free car wash event which recorded a total of 62 washed cars on Saturday, 23 March 2013 at the Bridgton Chalets as part of an annual Water Week campaign.
Aldm Gordon April, the Executive Mayor of the greater Oudtshoorn washed a car of a visitor from the Eastern Cape flanked by the Speaker John Stoffels and the Chairperson of the Technical Services Portfolio, cllr. Hendrik Ruiters. They were part of more than 50 volunteers who washed the 62 cars comprising officials from the Department of Water Affairs, Oudtshoorn Municipality, Cape Nature and its volunteers.
Echoing this year’s theme of water week, “WATER IS LIFE: Respect it, Conserve it, Enjoy it”, the 20-member team of the Department of Water Affairs encouraged residents to use a basket when washing vehicles than a hose pipe.The chairperson of the Municipal Technical Services Portfolio Councillor Hendrik Ruiters (far left of second row), Department of Water Affairs officials, Cape Nature officials and volunteers in a festive mood as they about to wash 62 cars during a free Car Wash event campaigning for preservation of water.
