Barrydale by-election: DA takes ward from ANC

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Western Cape is delighted and humbled by the support we received in yesterday’s ward 2 by-election in Barrydale. Our newly-elected ward councillor Mitchell Pokwas and the campaign team worked tirelessly over the past few weeks to secure a spectacular win for the party.

by Bonginkosi Madikizela – DA Western Cape Provincial Leader.

I would like to thank our activists, public representatives and staff members who fought this by-election until the very end.

The ward became vacant after the ANC’s councillor was removed from his position for numerous transgressions. Voters from the community echoed their frustration at the ANC’s inability to make meaningful progress in the ward and showcased their need for change by electing the DA.

This victory comes shortly after two major wins for the party, following Hessequa, where the DA also won a ward from the ANC and George. The party is ready to replicate this win further with the upcoming by-elections in the province.

We would like to thank the Barrydale community for placing their trust in the DA and lending us their vote. We will work hard to make sure that we put the people first and deliver on our campaign promises.
