Plett Tourism industry invited to participate with AirBnB “Live Anywhere” remote working campaign

Plett Tourism hospitality products and services are invited to participate in a joint marketing initiative between the Western Cape Government, Wesgro, and Airbnb to promote working remotely and domestically to South African’s. Welcoming the campaign, Premier Alan Winde commented: “Supporting recovery and protecting jobs in the tourism industry requires us to think innovatively and embrace emerging trends in travel. Digital nomads have the flexibility to stay longer because they can work from anywhere. The Western Cape is ready to welcome these visitors and provide them with a place to explore while they work. We strongly support this initiative.”**

Plett Tourism has included remote working and the ‘Digital Nomad’ as part of their recent Domestic Marketing Strategy, a valuable tool that has been focused on the domestic market since the coronavirus pandemic. Traditionally a popular international destination, Plett Tourism recognized the need to quickly change focus and concentrate on the market on their doorstep.

Plett Tourism’s focus includes:

  • Remote working locations | Focusing on medium – long term accommodation specials
  • Pet-friendly travel | Focusing on pet-friendly accommodation specials
  • Digital detox | Focusing on camping, van-lifer, cabins, and other remote working accommodation specials

Research indicates South Africans are searching for domestic longer term in comparison to 2019 and 2020. With South African’s interest in travelling domestically, it is anticipated that this interest will help drive economic and tourism recover across the country. *

The campaign with Airbnb encourages hosts to offer monthly discounts for reservations of 28 days or longer, and the Airbnb platform now offers a filter to help guests find domestic stays more easily.

Velma Corcoran, Regional Lead for Middle East Africa at Airbnb, says: “Remote working vacations are becoming increasingly popular in South Africa, so we are thrilled to partner with Wesgro to promote domestic tourism through longer term stays, while supporting economic recovery in Cape Town and the Western Cape.”**

Corcoran added, “As people’s travel habits change, local Hosts on Airbnb are leading the way, enabling South Africans to book local, affordable longer-term stays in places such as the Western Cape. Guests can live like a local and work remotely from some of South Africa’s most beautiful locations, while this new type of travel is also benefiting the local communities and businesses through increased spending. Hosts also keep up to 97% of their earnings.”**

The campaign encourages safe, responsible travel and will work to ensure guests get the experience they’ve waited so long to enjoy.
