NSRI assist stricken vessel

Ross Badenhorst, NSRI Plettenberg Bay deputy station commander, said: At 10h10, Thursday, 24 September, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated following reports to NSRI EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) of a boat requiring a tow.

2 crewman on the casualty boat were off-shore of Arch Rock after both of the casualty boats outboard motors reportedly seized.

The sea rescue craft Leonard Smith was launched while NSRI duty controllers requested the casualty crew to drop anchor to prevent their craft from drifting and NSRI assisted to advise the casualty crew with a checklist to try to re-establish motor power but their motors were unable to be started.

On NSRI’s arrival on the scene a towline was established and we towed the casualty boat to Central Beach where the boat was recovered and no further assistance was required.
