Wine – Plett bubbles among the best around

Newstead Lund Family Vineyards, located on Redford Road in the Plett Winelands, continues to put Plett’s bubblies on the international map!

At the recent Michelangelo International Wine & Spirit Awards, Newstead won two of only five Double Gold medals awarded in the sparkling wine category. Their Newstead Brut Chardonnay MCC received a Double Gold, as it has every year of production, and another Double Gold for their Rosé MCC Sparkling Wine. The Michelangelo judges reviewed over 3000 wines and are hand-picked wine experts representing all seven continents.

Doug and Sue Lund, of Newstead, both come from families with a rich farming heritage. And the Newstead crest combines those: the lion of the Lunds and the stag of the Robinsons. From sugar and dairy farms in KwaZulu-Natal, Doug and Sue brought their young family to Plett in 2006, purchasing 11.5 hectares of fallow land to plant Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes.

Today, they’ve built a home and tasting room, making wines, and a life, that they love.
