What’s on – Super September in Plett

It’s springtime in South Africa! September is South Africa’s Tourism Month and Heritage Month – it’s the month when the country wakes up from a short winter hibernation and starts making the most of their weekends and school holidays!

September is also one of the absolute best times to visit Plett – just check out the line-up below!

SA NATIONAL PARKS WEEK │ 8 – 15 September 2019
Plettenberg Bay lies in the heart of the Garden Route National Park, bordering the magnificent Tsitsikamma section of the national park at Nature’s Valley. South African National Parks’ week of celebrating our superb natural heritage enables South Africans to visit any national park in the country for free from 8 – 15 September 2019. Choose from Storms River, Tsitsikamma forest, Nature’s Valley, Harkerville, Kranshoek, Knysna and Wilderness for an adventure in our Garden Route.

PLETT HIGH FIVE │ 21 – 29 September 2019
This inaugural high adventure event is pioneered by Plett Tourism and will introduce travellers to Plett as the big boss of adventure destinations. With more than 30 adventures across the region, from the forests of Harkerville to the mountains of Tsitsikamma, Plett is the ultimate base camp from which to tackle the toughest, most insane adventures to be found.

Canyoning, abseiling, zip-lining, scuba diving, swimming with seals, blackwater tubing and, of course, leaping off the world’s highest bungy bridge provide endless exhilaration in the exquisite wilderness of Plett. Throttle down with a select mix of unforgettable activities to balance out the thrill: horse and hiking trails, stand-up paddling, kayaking, surfing, deep-sea angling, marine safaris and animal sanctuaries.

DR EVIL CLASSIC │ 19 – 21 September 2019
Three days, three insane routes from the forests of Kurland to wildlife sightings and the coastal sections of Harkerville, Dr Evil Classic is a non-stop revelation of gorgeous scenery and enviable trails. The first day introduces riders to the thrill and spectacle of riding through the Plett Game Reserve (look out for speeding zebra)! The second day takes riders onto Kurland Hotel & Polo Estate where at least 8km of brand-new single-track trails await. Finally, day three will return riders to Cairnbrogie Farm and the simply sublime coastal trails for which the Dr Evil Classic has become known. This is the ride of a lifetime.

CAPE NATURE ACCESS WEEK │ 23 – 29 September 2019
In celebration of both Tourism Month and Heritage Month, both Robberg and Keurbooms River nature reserves will be open to South African visitors during the week of Plett HIGH Five. Hiking Robberg has become the number one must-do when visiting Plett and with good reason: views stretch cobalt blue from ocean to mountain to sky and it’s a national monument and World Heritage Site, to boot.  If you’re looking for a nature experience with a little less climbing, pack a picnic basket and soak up the sun on the beautiful banks of the Keurbooms River.

SA EVENTING CHAMPIONSHIP │ 21 – 23 September 2019
One of South Africa’s premier horse-riding events now includes a variety of exciting outdoor events for the non-equestrian, making it a weekend of sport for the whole family to enjoy.

ROBBERG XPRESS TRAIL RUN │ 29 September 2019
The Robberg Xpress Trail Run offers runners every excuse to get out and enjoy the exquisite natural beauty of the bay and Robberg. The trail run will again consist of the ‘tough’ Robberg Xpress Trail Run and a shorter 5km scenic run.
