The hotel’s wine cellar boasts a beautifully appointed and cozy dining space that can only ever accommodate two guests at a time. The atmosphere created by this unique interior is heady and characterful and sets the tone for an extraordinary evening, made even more remarkable due to its exclusivity. For the table setting, fresh flowers, candlelight, a classic white tablecloth, long-stemmed glasses and silverware complete the picture, and make this an idyllic setting for a romantic night out.

The Plettenberg offers a carefully composed set menu for its private dining experience, with optional wine pairing. The menu begins with Knysna Oysters au natural paired with LÓrmarins Brut. This is followed by a choice of either Cucumber, Prawn & Salmon Trout Roulade, paired with Southern Right Sauvignon Blanc; or, Rooibos Tea Smoked Ostrich Carpaccio accompanied by the Raats Original Chenin Blanc. A palate cleanser of Apple and Fennel Sorbet creates a pause moment.

Your choice of mains follows. There’s oven-roasted black and white sesame crusted line fish, paired with Thelema Mountain Vineyards Chardonnay; or, a Parsley and Mint Crusted Rack of Karoo Lamb. The wine pairing for the lamb is the Tokara Cabernet Sauvignon Blanc.

Dessert is a Bitter Chocolate and Hazelnut Mousse with Passion Fruit Parfait and White Chocolate Sauce. The dessert wine is the Waterford Heatherleigh.

For the duration of this deliciously indulgent meal, the ambient temperature in the cellar will be climate controlled to make sure that diners are comfortable, without compromising the storage of the wine. Booking ahead is essential. The cost per person is R 460 without wine pairing, and R 745 with wine pairing.
