There’s no better time than the New Year to put those resolutions in place and shape up for 2012. With the festive season’s complimentary extra few kilos to shed, the Off The Hook Runners Challenge held inPlettenbergBayon the 4th of January 2012, may just be the perfect way to get cracking on 2012’s exercise routine.

Now in its second year, The Off The Hook Runners Challenge, sponsored by Plett Sports and Sotheby’s in Aid Of NSRI sees both locals and holiday folk unite in an epic beach run with an added twist in the form of a lagoon swim. Initiated by Off The Hook Seafood Restaurant’s, Wayne Craig, the guarantee is that this is an event for anyone keen on getting out and enjoying a spectacular run along what could easily rank as one of the world’s finest beaches. “Last year’s field was a mixed bag of experienced runners and those keen on a getting out there and having a bit of fun.” Says Wayne, who’s confident that this year’s challenge will be even better.

Kicking off at Keurboomsstrand just outside ofPlettenbergBay, the route followsKeurboomsBeachtowards theKeurboomsRiverestuary, a total of XXkm of wide-open sand, made ideal for running on a low tide. But it’s not all about the legwork, arms are challenged with a 300meter swim across the Keurbooms lagoon, which takes participants through to the next section of beach on the town side of the estuary. Safety is paramount throughout the event with Plett’s NSRI rescue craft posted at various points throughout the route. Skirting the lagoon edge, runners will then cross the well-known Look Out rocks, where they’ll be heading through thickets of Milkwood forest before tackling the final beach section alongBeaconIslandbeach towards the Beacon Island Hotel.

The event culminates at Off The Hook Seafood Restaurant, with the finish line at the restaurant’s entrance inBeacon Island Crescent, where a complimentary Bacon& Egg Roll and Vitamin will be available to all participants. Prize giving will follow with prizes kindly donated by, Plett Sports and New Balance.

With a total of 8 km of sand, rock and sea on the course and a chance to immerse yourself and your endorphins in Plett’s breathtaking surroundings, you’d be crazy to miss this one. So get yourself down to Plett’s Keurbooms beach on the morning of January 4th and take on The Off The Hook Runners Challenge, you couldn’t ask for a better way to get back into shape for the year ahead.
