Oudtshoorn, 01 October 2020- The South African Weather Services has issued a severe weather alert of disruptive rains in the Garden Route District as well as the Central Karoo District from today, 1 October 2020 until Saturday, 3 October 2020.
Residents of the Greater Oudtshoorn are urged to be cautious as the impact of the rain can cause flooding in formal and informal settlements.
The Fire, Rescue, and Disaster Management of Oudtshoorn Municipality have a standby crew ready throughout for any flood-related emergencies. “We are geared to deal with emergencies as a result of possible disruptive rains. Our Housing Department and maintenance teams are on standby as well as our Storm Water teams” says Adél Supra-Vertue, Manager: Fire Rescue and Disaster Management Services.
We urge all residents to stay indoors and avoid driving through rivers where water levels have increased. Try to get as much information as possible by listening to the local radio stations, and by checking the Municipal social media platforms for any updates.
