13 August 2019: There were jubilant scenes in Oudtshoorn today, when the Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Tertuis Simmers, handed over 50 title deeds to residents of the Rose valley III Housing Development Project.
Minister Simmers said: “Today is a joyous occasion and it is pleasing to be part of this moment in Oudtshoorn. As the Western Cape Government, we’ve once again demonstrated our commitment to improving the lives of our residents. Restoring dignity and creating a better life for our people, while also giving our residents a sense of security and pride in having full ownership of their properties continues to be our priority.”
Since taking office at the end of May 2019, Minister Simmers has now handed over 150 title deeds, in communities such as Blue Downs, Delft and today Oudtshoorn. Over the next few days, a further 307 Title Deeds will be handed to beneficiaries from Rosevalley Phase II, III as well as Toekomsrus.
The Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn, Councillor Colan Sylvester said: “This was a very successful project that was completed before time and we are extremely happy to bring these opportunities to the people of our town and to restore their dignity.” Mayor Sylvester also assured the residents that the next housing development in Rosevalley is underway. “We are looking forward to Phase 4 that will start between November 2019 and February 2020.”
One of the beneficiaries, a 75-year-old Blake Jantjies was overjoyed to receive his title deed. “The feeling of owning a property is indescribable, we are so thankful, we have suffered from the cold and rains in our shack, now we have a roof over our heads.,” he said.
“As the Western Cape Government, we will continue striving towards establishing an enabling environment, so that we are better placed to grant beneficiaries security of tenure and make more residents legal homeowners by handing over these title deeds” added Simmers.
