Oudtshoorn SANDF Cycling Championship

The annual South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Cycling Championship was held from 22  27 August 2011 in the pictorial town of Oudtshoorn in adverse weather conditions – from rain, snow to sunny but cold! Six members of the Kumba Kathu Cycling Club took part in the SANDF Cycling Championship as part of their dual membership of the Lohathla  Military Cycling Club. Armand Snygans was selected to represent the military as part of a development program and he achieved excellent results by ending fourth overall, first in the men’s category 20 – 30 years and winning a few hot spots during the road disciplines. All members participated in all the road disciplines (individual time trial, medium distance of 60 km in theOuteniquaMountains, long distance of 100 km, individual mountain hill climb of 7 km in the Swartberg pass,  40 km road race and the regional team time trial). Johan Liebenberg ended fifth overall, ended third overall for military members and a third overall place in his age category 40 – 50. He was also selected for the SANDF cycling team to participate in the SAPS Championship in September 2011 in George, as well as the Coronation Double Century race in October 2011 in Swellendam. Hennie Matthee ended ninth overall and Henk Botes twentieth. Congratulations to all the cyclists!
