Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has packaged an exciting programme for the Garden Route Port Festival, taking place on 2 and 3 November 2019. The festivities are free and open to all, with a variety of family-friendly activities and children’s entertainment on offer.
Music and Entertainment
Highlights will include performances by the likes of national hit-makers Kwesta and Vusi Nova, as well as a host of local artists including Mossel Bay Harmonic voices, Die Wasgoedlyn, Soulistic Harmonies, G Minor, Anushka & Keenan, Gody, Fanatics SA, Beat Kings, Space music, Hakkies Draad, and DJ Cat. A marimba band and various dance performances also promise to thrill on site.
Port-goers can compete for glory in a range of competitions, such as a talent show and fishing competition. Other competitive opportunities on the line-up include a potjie/fish braai competition, Amazing Race challenge, and a colour fun run.
The TNPA programme includes tugboat rides, sea rescue demonstrations, as well as a business and careers exhibition where attendees can learn about the maritime industry, while corporates get to showcase their company.
Kids will be kept entertained by rides including the carousel with ponies, bumper cars and bull rides. Activities include balloon art, face painting, donkey rides, jumping castles, climbing wall, 10metre slides, and photo booths.
Markets & Expo
There will be an arts and crafts market showcasing the talents of local crafters and entrepreneurs, as well as a Smart Youth market where learners will compete against each other, as they put their entrepreneurial and creative skills to the test. Fitness enthusiasts can look forward to exhibitions and live boxing and kickboxing matches.
Food and Drink
Attendees will be spoilt for choice with various stalls as well as port tenants selling their products. There will also be a beer tent and tea garden available.
Smart People’s Ports
Port festivals are highlight events on the annual calendar in TNPA’s port cities and the Garden Route Port Festival is being positioned as an event that will boost tourism and socio-economic development not only in Mossel Bay but in the entire Garden Route Region.
Port Festivals play an important role in TNPA’s drive to create Smart People’s Ports that best serve port communities. TNPA uses this platform to educate the public on what happens in our ports through a range of activities and demonstrations with a view to attracting bright young minds to explore careers and opportunities in the maritime sector.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming Garden Route visitors in their numbers to enjoy our interactive entertainment, all set within the environment of South Africa’s oldest working port,” said Shadrack Tshikalange, Mossel Bay Port Manager.
