The Knysna Yacht Club (KYC) Closing Cruise, held on Saturday 27 April, was a wonderful fun day for sailors aboard their watercraft as well as for the spectators, who filled the clubhouse decks to see the boats sail past to salute to the KYC President, Jim Parkes.
Special guests were invited to be part of the celebrations aboard a locally manufactured luxury yacht, the beautiful Knysna 500SE catamaran. The Seahorse swimmers, accompanied by canoeist, also added to the excitement of the event. The KYC annual prize-giving ceremony followed on, at which the sailors who had excelled throughout the sailing season were awarded trophies. The Daryl Gething Award was presented to Colin Mathiesen for the Best Contribution to the sport of sailing during 2019. The Junior Overall Cup & Trophy race winner throughout the Season was awarded to Nyasha Tembo, while the most Improved Novice Sailors’ award was presented jointly to Luca Lutolf and Ryan Steenkamp. Altogether a most enjoyable day was had by all.
