The Knysna Municipality commenced with the replacement of conventional metered system to prepaid electrical meters in Wards 9 and 10 last week.
Knysna Executive Mayor Mark Willemse said that the installation of electricity meters in Hunters Home is 98% complete. “We thank the residents in Hunters Home for their understanding, cooperation and allowing the contractor to do the installations. We also thank them for encouraging other residents in the area and sharing information on their Facebook page.”
The rest of the installation roll-out will be done in the following order Sparrebosch, Leisure Isle, The Heads, Lower and Upper Old Place, CBD, Thesen Island, Knysna Heights, Welbedacht, Belvidere, and Brenton.
Willemse said he notes and is aware of the residents’ concerns regarding the electricity meter project and he is addressing these issues. “A notification letter will be sent out a week prior to the installation in each area. We are also addressing identity issues, the Field Workers will now have identity cards.”
The installations will take place between 08h30 to 16h00 from Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. If you would like to schedule a time that suits you or for any other queries, please contact 044 302 6456.
Property owners will be provided with 5 free units/kWh of electricity on the day of installation. Thereafter, they will able to buy from any possible vending platform such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Petrol Stations, Kwik Spar, Spaza Shops etc., including the use of cell phone (provided that you are registered for this particular service with a service provider).
The Finance Directorate is currently finalising a framework for residents who have solar systems. Once this has been finalised the residents would need to apply and get the written approval for the solar system.
