George Executive Mayor, Ald Leon van Wyk, acknowledged and thanked seven firemen from the George Fire Brigade for their selfless service after they formed part of the team that extended a helping hand to our fellow Western Cape towns severely affected by the recent widespread flooding.
Ald Van Wyk and Dr Michele Gratz, George Municipal Manager, presented the team with certificates of appreciation this week. The town of Hermanus faced substantial water supply disruptions due to extensive flood damage to their water infrastructure. Responding swiftly to this crisis, George Municipality dispatched a 35,000-liter water tanker and a 7,000-liter water tanker on September 27, 2023, to support the affected communities. The dedicated team including their Fire Chief, Neels Barnard have been acknowledged for their hard work with pride.
Mayor Van Wyk thanked the team for a job well done and said he was bursting with pride to see the firemen on videos and in photographs working to assist the Overberg towns. He said the team drove and worked long hours to get the tankers to the destinations. He said George Municipality is always so appreciative of their hard work. In response to our assistance, Hermanus Mayor Ald Annelie Rabie conveyed numerous messages of gratitude to Executive Mayor Leon Van Wyk.
