George Tourism last week hosted 14 influential tour operators from Cape Town in a bid to attract more tour groups to the region.
Ms Joan Shaw, George Tourism Manager, hosted the group for lunch at The Fat Fish restaurant where she and Ms. Melanie Martins, who handles the Trade portfolio in the George Tourism Office did a marketing presentation.
Shaw says Big Tree Marketing has been bringing educational tours to the Garden Route since 1999, but they have not stopped in George since 2008. These tour operators have the potential to bring small, medium and large groups to George, and this was the perfect opportunity to introduce them to the activities available in George, Wilderness, and Uniondale. Shaw said they were particularly impressed with the GO GEORGE buses, and the indoor activities available to families, and of course the quality of the offering at The Fat Fish.
Each guest was provided with an information pack on the George area, including an adventure map of Wilderness and the Historical Walking Route in Pacaltsdorp, as well as a memento pen and keychain, to remind them to send clients to George.
“It is always first prize to be able to market to tour operators face-to-face, as you can sell with passion and enthusiasm. These contacts are now added to our database, so that we can keep them up to date of specials, events and new and interesting facts about our area, so that George and surrounds stays top-of-mind, as an excellent leisure and family destination,” Shaw said.
Lindsey Gibaud from Big Tree Marketing thanked everyone that was part of this successful Garden Route Educational tour and said she already had such positive feedback from the group she can confidently say we are going to see positive responses on the tour.
