SOUTH AFRICA (August 2016) – James Baldwin said in his wisdom “There is never time in the future in which we will work out our salvation. The challenge is in the moment; the time is always now.”
That is what Michél Nunes, one of South Africa’s leading jewellery designers and owner of Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers in George, does when he donates so generously to Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands championed by Hartmans. The time is now to make a difference…on 20 August 2016 guests at the 8th annual Gourmets and Gourmands will have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the special needs learners of Carpe Diem School.
Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers will again add timeless splendour to the annual Carpe Diem School Gourmets and Gourmands by donating two exquisite time pieces to be auctioned off to raise funds for the special needs school. Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers was originally established in 1957 in George by master watchmakers Raffaele D’Amato and his son Deryck Nunes. Raffaele, who was an Italian prisoner of war, came to South Africa to make a better life for himself and later his family. Deryck opened the first store in Paarl and later joined his parents in George. Today the tradition of superb craftsmanship is carried on by Michél Nunes, third generation master jeweller and designer of note.
Now also a Canadian Graduate Jeweller, Michél travels between Canada and South Africa attending to his clients. His horizon regarding jewellery design was broadened tremendously by entrenching roots in Canada. Michél’s vision and creativity for design was stimulated by this brave move. He knows undoubtedly that with his all encompassed experience in jewellery design he still has a presence to be reckoned with in South Africa. By being an active international jewellery designer Michél is now more than ever in a position to forecast international trends and advise his clients as such.
Michél has always believed in adding to the quality of the lives of those in the local community who needs it most. He especially wants to make a difference in the lives of children. Michél believes in donating only the best to Carpe Diem School to raise as much funds as possible. The R52 000 stainless steel and 18ct yellow gold ladies Ebel Wave watch with a mother of pearl dial, sweep second hand and diamonds on the bezel and dial on a matching bracelet with a butterfly clasp is sure to take everyone’s breath away. The Ebel Wave will appeal to fashion‐forward women and men looking for a modern, elegant timepiece that embodies the artistic refinement and technical precision for which EBEL is universally renowned.
A stainless steel and gold plated Michel Herbelin Newport Trophy analogue quarts chronograph with a mother of pearl dial and diamonds on the dial on a matching two tone bracelet with a deployment clasp worth R20 000 was also donated by Raffaele D’Amato Jewellers. All Michel Herbelin pieces are French-designed with precision Swiss Movements, offering a wide range of models that meet all requirements, both sporty and classic.
