André Schwartz to perform at Gourmet & Gourmand Event

111Well-known South African performer, André Schwartz, will be the guest artist at the annual Gourmet & Gourmand Event in George on the 22nd of August.  The Carpe Diem School for learners with special needs hosts this annual fund-raising event.  The theme for the evening is “Food of the Opera.”  Apart from the performance by Schwartz, chefs from 19 Garden Route restaurants will present a menu to match the opera theme.

Schwartz will entertain guests with some of his older hits, brand new ones, as well as songs from musicals, and of course Phantom of the Opera. He has become a household name on the South African stage for his star-studded performance as the Phantom in this classic by Andrew Lloyd Webber. He has played the principle role in musicals like Joseph and his amazing Technicolor Dream coat, Jesus Christ Superstar and the ever-popular The Sound of Music.

As a recording artist he has released 14 CD’s ranging from Afrikaans, Pop, Big Band Jazz and Musicals.  Apart from performing on stage, he an actor, TV presenter and a judge in TV reality shows.

Schwartz feels honoured to be part of this event.  “Children are precious.  We have a duty to make disabled kids feel special and loved.  They should be given all the possible opportunities to shine.  We have to make people aware of their special needs and should assist in any possible way to enable them to fulfill their dreams. “

Schwartz is a talented and multi-faceted performer loved by South African audiences for his warmth, sense of style, humour and lively stage personality. He will also share incidents from his live with guests.  “As a child I decided that my life would be colourful.  Then you pass on light to others, because colour is light. ”

He is as passionate about good food and wine, as he is about music.  Along with South Africa’s food Evangelist, Francois Ferreira, who will act as the Master of Ceremonies, the stage is set for an unforgettable evening at the Opera.
