A laptop thief was apprehended in the early hours of Friday 23 January 2015, thanks to the quick response of a local security officer.
Just before 03h30, ADT Security dispatched Armed Response Officer (ARO) Duwayne Moos after it received a panic alarm signal from an address in Nederburg Street in George East. As he arrived at the address, the ARO noticed an open window, saw someone – who wore a red top – run from the property and heard a resident scream that the runner had stolen their laptop.
Officer Moos patrolled the area and quickly traced and apprehended the suspect who he later handed over for arrest to members with the George South African Police Service.
“We commend ARO Moos for his quick response and thinking,” said Arno Hattingh, Manager of ADT Security’s Garden Route Branch.
Hattingh had some advice for anyone who suspects that there may be an intruder on the premises.
“Never confront an intruder directly as you cannot be sure that they are not armed or dangerous. Immediately contact the police or your security provider. Try to stay on the line with them until officers have arrived. Do not venture outside until the police or security officers have given the all-clear that it is safe to do so.”
