SA Roadlink passengers stranded as bus driver arrested

Traffic authorities at George (Southern Cape) have arrested a bus driver and grounded two unroadworthy SA Roadlink buses. This has left a large number of passengers stranded in the Garden Route town, currently experiencing a cold spell and rainy weather.

The bus which was on its way from Durban to Cape Town was grounded for having a defective toilet, while the one from Cape Town to East London did not have a valid permit.

The driver was arrested and is expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court today. One of the passengers, Bongani Gorha, says they’ve been stranded for more than six hours.

Gorha says: “The problem about Roadlink I was here yesterday night, I was supposed to be at East London from yesterday, so the problem is I don’t have airtime to phone at home to tell them that I am stuck in this place, George, so they think now maybe it’s an accident, they still don’t know yet.”
