A Sedgefield resident almost lost his bicycle after a suspect allegedly stole it from his property last month.
“A Fidelity ADT customer in Hennies Street pressed his panic alarm button after realising that a suspect was busy stealing a bicycle from his yard in the early morning hours of the morning. Our Armed Response Officer Ntobeko Breakfast was dispatched immediately and arrived at the premises within minutes,” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Garden Route, Pieter Meiring.
When he arrived at the address, the officer was given an accurate description of the alleged suspect.
“Officer Breakfast and a colleague started searching the area, and soon found a suspect that matched the description they were given a few blocks away. The officer apprehended the suspect and held him in custody until the local SAPS arrived. The suspect was handed over for arrest and the bicycle returned to its rightful owner,” Meiring added.
Residents of Sedgefield are reminded to refrain from leaving any valuable items in visible areas on their properties.
“Items such as bicycles, toys and garden equipment need to be locked away before going to bed or leaving the premises. Criminals are opportunistic and will take advantage of any chance they get,” says Meiring.
