Thirty golfers gathered in Sedgefield to play in the two-day Sedge Links Saturday Golf Club Championship on both Saturday 17 and 24 November. The A–Division (0 – 9 handicappers) played Medal while the B-Division (10 and up handicappers) played Individual Betterball Stableford (IBS).
“We are so pleased with the turnout and especially the spirit in which the games were played,” said Saturday Golf Captain, Mike Goodwin.
The A-division winners:
1st – Andre Stander – Nett 110
2nd Jamie Fearon – Nett 111
3rd Neville Large Nett 117
The B-Division saw three players finish on 78 points. In keeping with the spirit of the game Saturday Committee decided that these three players would play a three hole play-off to decide the winner.
Congratulations go to:
1st Fran Kirsten
2nd Etienne van der Mescht
3rd Bertus Mynhardt
Mynhardt deserves a special mention as he started the second day 7 points behind the winners, managing to catch them with his score of a whopping 45 points.
Pierre de Villiers, Derek van Zyl and Mike Goodwin walked away with the nearest the pin prizes on 1/10, 4/13 and 8/17 respectively.
“I have to thank my Vice-Captain, Peter Schnetler, who worked tirelessly in making this day such a success. I too must thank so many others for their help, you know who you are. I am too nervous to mention all by name in case I miss someone out. A special thanks must go to our sponsors, Remax Lakes, Sedgefield, Mr Kaai, Nautical South Restaurant and Bar (Brenton-on-Sea), Pezula Championship Golf Course, Sedgefield Arms Restuarant and Filo’s Restaurant and Pub, without their generosity our championship could not have taken place.” concluded Goodwin.
