A day of fun for Tennis Kids

On Saturday 5th March, the Sedgefield Tennis School Project held a very successful fun day of activities at Outward Bound for the Tennis kids. Thirty kids from Smutsville, Sedgefield and rural areas participated.

Before the fun started cool drinks, snacks and a yummy chocolate cake were provided. Various games were played and then some swimming in the Swartvlei. From all the noise made by the kids, it sounded like they had a great time burning off all those excess energy packets kids seem to have! They were supervised in the water by Roger who enjoyed it just as much as the kids. As in all these fun days, safety plays a key role and safety jackets were provided by Outward Bound.

The highlight and the surprise of the day was the drumming session of the kids on African drums. Provided and energetically lead by Richelle Kohn from the Drum Café. They started by some fun lessons and then some serious drumming began. What a lekker sound to hear and great to see the excitement on the kids’ faces. They loved it.

All the activity builds a good appetite and boerewors rolls, chicken rolls with plenty of sauces and cool drinks were provided. From the way the food vanished, the Tennis School will need to increase their budget for the next activity day.

We would like to thank Masithandane and Watson for the transport provided, Outward Bound for the venue, Richelle for the drumming session, the community members who assisted with managing the kids, the sponsors and all the supporters.
