A local community security group has praised an armed response officer for his quick response, which led to the arrest of a suspect and the recovery of stolen property.
“Elton Loggerenberg [pictured above] acted on intelligence provided by the Plettenberg Bay Crime Prevention Association (PBCPA) relating to a suspect that could be connected to thefts in the area. He went to investigate and quickly located a suspect which matched the description provided,” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for the Garden Route, Pieter Meiring.
Loggerenberg questioned the suspect as well as another unidentified person that was with him. This led to him being given information on the location of a stolen television, which was hidden nearby. Both suspects were handed over into police custody, for further investigation while the television was returned to its rightful owner.
“I am proud of how our officers have remained on duty all the way through the lockdown. The cooperation and support we get from community groups such as the PBCPA helps us to even better protect the residents of Plettenberg Bay,” says Meiring.
A spokesperson for the PBCPA wrote to Fidelity ADT expressing their appreciation for Loggerenberg’s quick response. According to the PBCPA, both arrested suspects could be connected to previous incidents in the area.
Meiring encourages residents to remain vigilant and to report anything suspicious.
“Our officers are on duty during lockdown and armed with the PPE protective equipment they need. Please raise the alarm if you see anything suspicious in your suburb.”
