One of the many festivities planned for this festive season was the Plett Tourism sponsored Plett Gqom Experience that took place on the 15th of December at Kwanokuthula stadium.
The event was a hit the moment its organisers announced the programme three months ago. Partly because of the headline acts it was bringing; multi-award winning DJ’s Lulo café, Vetkoek and Mahoota, DJ Mlungu and others.
Local acts included DJ China, Epic and the flamboyant and very popular Bonisile Desha from George, as the MC for the night.
But the biggest highlight of the evening was when socialite and personality Zodwa Wabantu came on stage. The popular stage performer has made a name for herself with her seductive dancing and interesting stage costumes, wooing and pulling in thousands in the process, both males and females.
During her performance, Zodwa encouraged all ladies in attendance to embrace and be happy with their bodies. She also called on them to not let men dictate how they should express themselves as woman. She pleaded with men to support their woman, and not abuse them in any form.
For only R100 a ticket, the line-up was highly ambitious, but fortunately the event organisers delivered and the show was a success.
A moment of silence was observed for Plett Fashion Model Simnikiwe Mfengu who was recently murdered by her boyfriend in Cape Town.
This event coincided with the 16th of December where most people used the date to mark the start of the season, and others going for holidays in neighbouring provinces. The event was used by both locals and visitors alike as the benchmark for the festive season.
Looking to forward to next Plett Gqom Experience next year.
