Plett Summer is just starting to heat up and there is so much to look forward to as we careen towards the end of 2018!
We have hosted the sailors of the Robberg Fine Foods Classic Beach Regatta and the international players of the KIA ITF Beach Tennis Plett Summer Slam, legendary South African sounds of Wonderboom, Prime Circle, GQOM and GoodLuck, we’ve sunned on the beach and hiked in the forest.
And it’s only the beginning as the next two weeks are jam-packed with the music, sports and family entertainment of Plett Summer!
PLETT SUMMER FAMILY DAY
With a world wind of international tours, European festival headlining bills and sold-out events, Jeremy Loops is heading to Plett Summer for one day only this December. Join in at Plett Primary School for a sunset picnic with Jeremy Loops, The World of Birds and the grooviest DJs. It’s a family event from after lunch until the early hours of the evening and kids U12 get free entry! BOOK
SABRINA LOVE OCEAN CHALLENGE
One of Plett’s favourite sporting events and a highlight of the Plett Summer calendar, the Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge has grown year-on-year into a fabulous event with something to offer super sportspeople and families alike. This year’s event will take place on Plett’s Central Beach with a 10km road and beach run, 15km surf ski challenge, fun beach walk and one-mile ocean swim. Kurland Estate will host the 6km and 10km trail runs, 25km MTB ride and “Kids of Steel” run/swim. Proceeds from the Sabrina Love Ocean Challenge go to the Sabrina Love Foundation which cares for children with special needs. BOOK
INTERNATIONAL POLO MATCH & POLO PONY PARADE
Pavilion space is selling out fast for the international polo match between Ireland and South Africa! Polo is a large contributor to Plett’s summer appeal and includes several matches leading up the international between Ireland and South Africa, and an enviable social scene stemming from our summer polo visitors. The international match is the polo event of the year, held at the exquisite Kurland Estate polo pavilion, and spectators are invited to book their VIP boxes or pack a picnic blanket to watch from the lawns.
Additionally, the Polo Pony Parade has become an iconic Plett Summer event and is the only one of its kind in South Africa. Held on the in the lead-up to the Polo International, the Springbok and Irish players will parade along Main Street and, to the delight of spectators, the young polo players, on their magnificent thoroughbred ponies, will ride alongside the international players. With banners flying and a music truck, it promises to be a festive, and memorable, occasion. MORE INFO
PLETT SUMMER MUSIC COLOUR RUN
Where movement, sound and colour collide in a cacophony of summer fun! The 5km Summer Music Colour Run is back for its fifth year and runners will be entertained at three colour stations, two music stations (each hosting a local DJ) playing the best of the best summer tunes… You won’t need your iPod, because this event brings the beat! The 2018 series will also see three new event experiences unveiled to participants: a glitter start to get proceedings underway; a giant inflatable slide; and a dodgeball arena. What’s not to love? BLISSFEST YOGA FESTIVAL
The BlissFest Yoga Festival offers a variety of different yoga styles and is suitable for all ages. Gather in nature to celebrate the Summer Solstice in beautiful Plettenberg Bay. Find your yoga practice or try something new – meditate, move, dance and chant your way towards the new year! Bring along your friends, or make new ones! Start your day with the Aquarian Age Sadhana and end your day in Shavasana. Create your own experience – it’s your holiday, after all! BOOK
FLOAT DAY ON STANLEY ISLAND
Join the adventurers, thrill seekers and professional chillers for the second annual float day on Stanley Island. This is a day dedicated to celebrating Plett Summer and all the joys of the festive season. Forget about your worries, grab your swim wear and something – anything – that floats and head over to the island. Awesome prizes to be won for the most outrageous floatation device – the crazier the better. Judging criteria will be based on size, style, relevance and originality.
