Awards – iKasi Media nominated for ‘Imagine’ award

Plett Tourism’s partner in Plett Food Film, iKasi Media, was nominated, amongst other non-profit organisations working for social justice, poverty alleviation and youth development, for an Imagine Award, hosted at the Artscape Theatre 30th November 2018.

Nominated in the Rural Development in Media category, iKasi has been recognised for the training delivered to 100 youths from the Garden Route district.

Being recognised is great, it gives us motivation to continue growing our offering. iKasi Media is now a registered PBO and our training is for free. Our target is previously disadvantaged rural youths who would otherwise not have access to opportunity in the Film TV and Digital Media industry,” said iKasi Media’s Lika Berning.

The Imagine Awards were hosted by Iqbal Surve, a businessman, philanthropist and owner of Sekunjalo Investments. The event recognised small organisations making a difference and is a validation of community building and best practice. Along with a small cash prize, iKasi Media will have the opportunity to apply for further funding from Surve Philanthropies.

iKasi Media started as a small non-profit organisation in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay, and is now operating all over the Garden Route district. Lika said: “Plett Tourism and Bitou Municipality have been generous supporters of our work, and we are excited about further training in Bitou region!”
