NSRI assist injured hiker

Marc Rodgers, NSRI Plettenberg Bay station commander, said: At 13h51, Tuesday, 27th February, NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty crew were activated to respond to Robberg Nature Reserve hiking trail, at The Point, following reports of a 29 year old female from Brazil suffering a fractured leg sustained in a fall while hiking.

The sea rescue craft Leonard Smith was launched with NSRI medical crew and NSRI medical crew, Mountain Club of South Africa Garden Route Division, Medlife ambulance services and WC Government Health EMS responded from the land side.

The AMS/EMS Skymed rescue helicopter was placed on alert.

On arrival on the scene NSRI medical crew were deployed from the boat and they hiked to the location and a female suffering a fractured Right Ankle, suspected Tibula and Fibula fracture, was stabilised.

Additional medical crew hiked from the car park and joined us on the scene.

The patient was secured into a stretcher and hiked to the shoreline where we loaded her into the sea rescue craft she was transported to our sea rescue base aboard our sea rescue craft and transported to hospital by ambulance in a stable condition.
