A suspect is in police custody after he allegedly mugged a woman in the early hours of Saturday 28 October 2017 in Plettenberg Bay.
Fidelity ADT Security armed response officer Khanya Mazomba was on patrol along Beacon Road at around 02h25, when he was approached by two members of the public who asked for his assistance.
“The man told our officer that his female companion’s handbag had been grabbed by an unknown suspect a few minutes earlier. Luckily he was able to provide officer Mazomba with an accurate description of the bag and the suspect,” says Steven Green, branch manager for Fidelity ADT in Plettenberg Bay.
The description was passed on to the Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre, and police assistance was requested.
“Officer Mazomba patrolled the area and soon located a suspect in Sewell Drive hiding behind a car, who matched the description he was given earlier. The suspect was detained and the allegedly stolen handbag was found in his possession,” says Green.
Plettenberg Bay SAPS soon arrived to take the suspect into custody on a charge of robbery.
“Well done to officer Mazomba for making sure this suspect was successfully apprehended. The accurate information provided by the male complainant also helped in the arrest. Becoming a victim of crime is understandably a traumatic experience, but it helps law enforcement efforts if you are able to give an accurate description of the alleged perpetrator,” says Green.
