On 28 and 29 September 2015, the project moved to Uniondale in collaboration with the George Municipality. The course material was compiled by SA Teacher, in collaboration with the Air Quality Unit of Eden District Municipal. The course material included the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What air pollution is;<\/li>\n<li>The health effects thereof;<\/li>\n<li>What cause air pollution;<\/li>\n<li>How you can help reduce air pollution;<\/li>\n<li>How to make a fire;<\/li>\n<li>How to make a \u201ccleaner\u201d fire for heating purposes; and<\/li>\n<li>How to construct a stove from waste material<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4457\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4457\" style=\"width: 585px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-4457\" src=\"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0106-585x390.jpg\" alt=\"The Stove in action\" width=\"585\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0106-585x390.jpg 585w, http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0106-290x193.jpg 290w, http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0106.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4457\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Stove in action<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On day one of the Clean Fire Course, the educational material presented was based on the basics of air pollution and how to effectively communicate and educate other members of their communities. They also had to construct a stove made from recyclable material which requires less fuel and in turn reduces smoke emissions. The stoves that were constructed were used by each peer educator to prepare a meal.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-4459\" src=\"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0139-585x390.jpg\" alt=\"_DSC0139\" width=\"585\" height=\"390\" srcset=\"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0139-585x390.jpg 585w, http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0139-290x193.jpg 290w, http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DSC0139.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 585px) 100vw, 585px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the course, the peer educators were each given a certificate of attendance and a backpack that is fully equipped with all the necessary hardware and educational material to do physical demonstrations to others members of their communities. Each peer educator must educate at least 50 people within a two month period. Through this, 500 people will be reached that would make a significant impact on air quality education and awareness in the Eden district. The peer educator must compile a portfolio of evidence (photos, registers, etc.), which must be submitted online and will be evaluated by Eden and SA Teacher.
