{"id":3869,"date":"2015-04-02T14:42:27","date_gmt":"2015-04-02T12:42:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/?p=3869"},"modified":"2015-04-02T14:42:27","modified_gmt":"2015-04-02T12:42:27","slug":"best-of-dcas-youth-and-rural-drama-at-kknk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/2015\/04\/02\/best-of-dcas-youth-and-rural-drama-at-kknk\/","title":{"rendered":"Best of DCAS Youth and Rural Drama at KKNK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westerncape.gov.za\/dept\/cas\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-3871\" src=\"http:\/\/thegremlin.co.za\/oudtshoorn-news\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/dcas-220x66.jpg\" alt=\"dcas\" width=\"220\" height=\"66\" \/>The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS)<\/a> is proud to present the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westerncape.gov.za\/general-publication\/best-dcas-drama-posters\" target=\"_blank\">Best of DCAS Youth and Rural Drama<\/a> to be hosted at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westerncape.gov.za\/facility\/cultural-centre-schoemanspoort\" target=\"_blank\">Schoemanspoort Cultural Facility in Oudtshoorn<\/a> during the period of the <a href=\"http:\/\/kknk.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\">Klein Karoo Nasionale Kunstefees (KKNK).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The department has for the past four years facilitated drama development for youth in the rural community. The productions featured are testimony to the Departmental programme having been successful in its co-ordination of the collaborative efforts of communities, the municipality, professional theatres and specialists in the field namely: Bongile Mantsai, Sizwe Msutu, Stuart Palmer, Ntombi Makutshi, Abduraghmaan Adams and Thami Mbongo. These festivals shaped productions that were staged at the Baxter Theatres, Zabalaza Festival, the Suidoosterfees and the Absa KKNK. This year the department plans to bring the best productions which have been produced over the past four years to the Oudtshoorn Community.<\/p>\n<p>Communities from Dysselsdorp, Bongolethu and Bridgeton will be transported daily from the 08\u201311 April 2015, by the department to the Oudtshoorn facility, at no cost. They will be granted the opportunity to experience the following productions: Up in Smoke &#8211; Kairos Drama Group (Heidelberg), Tussen Grafte \u2013 Redlight 7 (Kraaifontein), Untitled \u2013 Langeberg Mixed ( Robertson), Afvlerk \u2013 Vangnet (Bonnievale), Should I wear the shoes \u2013 Beat Drama group (Dysselsdorp) and current festival winners Unlocked Cages \u2013 Team Bring it (Worcester) and Blomme vir Oulaas \u2013 New age Theatre (George) live on stage.<\/p>\n<p>Theuns Botha, Minister for Cultural Affairs and Sport, emphasised the need for access to theatre experiences in communities. \u201cTheatre is an important tool in bringing communities together.
