Oudtshoorn, 13 July 2020 – The Oudtshoorn Municipality is pleased to announce that refuse collection will continue tomorrow in the Greater Oudtshoorn with slight changes, due to a two-day refuse collection backlog caused by COVID19 infections in the Cleansing Unit.
According the Community Services Directorate, alternative measures have been put in place to resume collection of refuse removal in Oudtshoorn, even though it may not be at the same service level standards that the citizens are used to before COVID19 related interruptions.
We remain committed to ensure that the citizens of the Greater Oudtshoorn enjoy the well-deserved and much needed basic service.
The uncollected garbage of Friday 10 July 2020 and Monday 13 July 2020 has been prioritised and will be collected on Tuesday, 14 July 2020 as from 12:00.
Refuse collection of Tuesday and Wednesday (14 & 15 July 2020) will be collected on Wednesday, 15 July 2020. Refuse collection on Thursday, 16 July and onwards will continue as normal. Should there be any changes in this plan, we will communicate accordingly.
Good news for the Dysselsdorp and De Rust Residents is that refuse collection in these areas will continue as normal.
We urge the community of the Greater Oudtshoorn to continue to work with the Municipality to ease the pressure by avoiding illegally dump household garbage in open spaces. We have noted that illegal dumping has increased drastically for the past few days, and thereby complicating the situation even further. We depend on the cooperation of the citizens to ensure that our beautiful town stays clean.
We would like to thank the citizens of the Greater Oudtshoorn for their patience during this very difficult time of lives. The impact of COVID19 is hitting the essential staff of Oudtshoorn Municipality very hard, in particular Cleansing Services.
To prevent further infections to the staff and the public, the affected Cleansing Services unit stall will remain on quarantine and isolation until Monday 27 July 2020. The Cleansing services include refuse removal, open spaces and street sweeping.
