Oudtshoorn, 15 November 2016 – The Executive Mayor’s 100 days service delivery plan gains momentum as more than 30 streets damages are set to benefit from a R2 Million road-repair programme within the next month.
This programme which focuses on Wards 1, 2, 3 and 7 consists of four parts; repairing surfacing of roads damaged by burst water mains, done by a private contractor, repairing of potholes by the Municipal Technical team, painting of street marks and repairing / replacing of road signs.
The Mayor, Cllr. Colan Sylvester has about three months ago announced a 100 Plan aimed at improving service delivery in the greater Oudtshoorn.
The first street to be repaired was Oostlikeweg in the South of Oudtshoorn. HENRA, a private contractor started with road surfacing specifically to areas where pipe bursts have occurred. This company brought along a team of experts and skilled personnel in road sealing; therefore job creation is limited to 6 job opportunities for this specific programme.
The Senior Manager for Streets & Storm-water, Mr. Paul Muller has assured that projects with a larger job creation component would commence early next year when streets in the poor areas will be repaired.
Another element of the street repair work which runs simultaneously with the road surface repair due to pipe bursts is the fixing of potholes which is conducted by the Municipal technical team. This will be followed by streets marking and repairing / replacing of street signs.
