Former CFO sentenced to five years

Mossel Bay Municipality received confirmation about the sentence that was handed down on its Chief Financial Officer, Mr Marius Botha.

Sentencing proceedings with regard to Mr Botha’s criminal trial commenced on 28 August 2017 and the Municipality received confirmation on Friday, 1 September 2017 that Mr Botha was sentenced to five (5) years imprisonment. 

Acting on the advice received from Senior Counsel and the Municipality’s attorneys in this regard, Council resolved at a Special Council Meeting on 7 September 2017 to terminate Mr Botha’s employment in accordance with the contract he entered into at the time of taking up his employment with the Municipality. 

The position of Chief Financial Officer will be advertised and filled in accordance with the relevant legislative prescripts.


Mosselbaai-munisipaliteit het bevestiging van die straf wat hulle hoof: finansiële beampte, mnr. Marius Botha, opgelȇ is, bekom. 

Vonnisoplegging met betrekking tot mnr. Botha se kriminele verhoor het op 28 Augustus 2017 ‘n aanvang geneem en die Munisipaliteit het op Vrydag 1 September 2017 bevestiging ontvang dat mnr. Botha tot vyf (5) jaar gevangenisstraf gevonnis is.

Handelende op die advies ontvang vanaf ‘n senior advokaat en die Munisipaliteit se prokureurs in die verband, het die Raad tydens ‘n Spesiale Raadsvergadering gehou op 7 September 2017, besluit om mnr. Botha se diens te beëindig in terme van die ooreenkoms met hom gesluit tydens die aanvang van sy diens by die Munisipaliteit.

Die pos van hoof: finansiële beampte sal geadverteer en gevul word in ooreenstemming met die toepaslike wetlike voorskrifte.
