Assistance to a boat and crew off-shore of Little Brak

At 14h02, Sunday, 09th July, NSRI Mossel Bay duty crew were activated following a request for assistance from the recreational fishing craft Just 4 Play reporting to have run out of fuel near to the Orca Drilling Platform off-shore of Little Brak with 6 crew onboard.

The sea rescue craft Rescue 15, on a routine exercise at the time, collected fuel for the casualty craft and on arrival on the scene fuel was supplied to the craft and 2 of the 6 crew were taken off the craft, one a 22 year old male suffering hypothermia and one a 35 year old male suffering back pain that had reportedly been sustained onboard the boat when the man had fallen on the boat earlier.

By Grace ambulance services responded to the Mossel Bay sea rescue station and on arrival of the sea rescue craft the man suffering back pain was transported to hospital in a stable condition by ambulance and NSRI medics rewarmed the hypothermic man and he was released after being re-warmed and no further assistance was required.
