Kluyts & Co launches the new Kluyts Collection with a Private Preview

Knysna, Western Cape – Thursday the 17th of November 2011 saw Kluyts & Company launch the new Kluyts Collection. This contemporary collection was created to broaden Kluyts & Company’s appeal and to leverage their skilled workforce into other areas of cabinet making. Each piece has been individually designed by George Hay and promises to challenge most people’s perceptions of this established brand as well as to excite with each piece having unique shape and form.

The event was well attended by some of South Africa’s foremost interior designers and architects and was proudly supported by the Knysna Mayor, Cllr Georlene Wolmaraans, the Knysna Chamber of Business, Mitchell’s Brewery and Urban Vineyards.
“We will always make classical furniture in the Cape Dutch style but I hope we stretch ourselves and challenge our customers with some stunning, arresting contemporary furniture too. George Hay just keeps bringing me new and interesting designs, so watch this space, as I am convinced the design world will recognise that he has something different to offer very soon” states Torquil. The collection makes use of factory off-cuts in rare timbers that would otherwise not be used, making the each piece unique and very sustainable.

• Originally established in 1962 by Hertzog and Anna Kluyts, Kluyts & Co quickly became renowned for their careful management, skilled craftsmanship and passion for quality furniture. These core values remain today, under the management of Torquil Mathewson with many of the original staff continuing to guide and teach the next generation of cabinet makers.
Kluyts & Co have grown to become a respected name in South Africa and now send fine furniture as far away as Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

• Mitchell’s Brewery has been part of Knysna’s heritage for over 25 years. The brewery was started in 1983 by Lex Mitchell who had a great passion for craft beer. He brewed Forester’s Lager and Bosun’s Bitter which was distributed in Knysna only. Our current brewmaster, Dave McRae, started brewing for Mitchell’s in 1984. Since then, five beers have been added to our repertoire and are distributed nationally.  More recently, we have added a pure apple cider to the Mitchell’s stable. Our beers are completely natural, made with 100% barley, water, hops and yeast and contain no artificial preservatives or chemicals. Mitchell’s is proudly South African and a proud part of the Knysna experience. The Kluyts & Co Showroom is situated at 18 Grey Street, Knysna
