UPDATE – 28 OCTOBER 2011

RHEENENDAL SOCIAL EVENT

End of year calendars and diaries are probably filling up right now, so please diarise/reserve :

SATURDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2011 – 6:00PM

A social get together is planned for this date. It will be held at the “Red Barn”. Exact details will be communicated shortly. Apart from just getting together, informal, short, end of year reports will be given by the Fire Management Unit, Farmwatch and the Conservancy. Please make every effort to attend.

OUR SECURITY

There is still nothing further to report relative to the armed robbery in our area save that nobody has been apprehended. It is however, suspected that the same gang/syndicate is responsible for other subsequent armed robberies in the greater Knysna area. I spoke to Sgt Kapp a few days ago and he said that the same perpetrators are possibly responsible for a similar event at De Vlugt. The Knysa-Plett Herald carried a story this last week about an attack by two individuals wearing balaclavas in Harkerville.

Please remain vigilant and aware

ESKOM SUB-STATION

You may be aware of the construction taking place on a farm East of Rheenendal Road. This is for an ESKOM sub-station. which is part of the Blanco – Knysna 132kv line which is a major upgrade to the ESKOM infrastructure in the Garden Route. Bottom line, the entire Garden Route requires more electricity and the existing infrastructure just cannot cope. In spite of many objections at the time the project was approved by the DEAT in 2009.. This approval was given after all required studies including EIA’s were completed. The Conservancy will closely monitor proceedings to ensure that the stated EMP is complied with.

It has however, been discovered that no building plans for the sub-station were submitted and the Knysna Municipality has ordered all work to stop until plans are submitted and approved.

PERIOD OF ABSCENCE

I shall be be away from 31 October until 19 November. Please contact Ingrid Young (Vice Chairperson) if needed.. 082-825-2301

Kind regards,

Grant McAlpine (Chairman)
