Wally Hyman, long time member of Knysna’s Sea Rescue station, has passed away after a battle with cancer. Wally joined the station in February 1982 and has been an active and much loved member ever since.
Wally, with three other Knysna NSRI volunteers, was awarded a Certificate for Outstanding Service by then State President, and NSRI patron, PW Botha, for his part in rescuing two men from an overturned ski-boat in the Knysna heads in 1987.
For the last few years he took over the duties of station administrator.
Station commander Graeme Harding said,” Wally was such a big part of our station. The guys are very upset. We are going to miss him.”
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.
