Re Plett Bus service
It is a sensitive time to talk about buses and safety but I want to engage you regarding a couple of issues about the Plett bus service which we provide for you.
Firstly, I would like to assure you that our buses are inspected on a weekly basis, serviced regularly and undergo a roadworthy test each year. We have wonderfully committed bus drivers in Elvin, Ettiene and Claement and in my daily interaction with them I certainly get a sense of how important safety is to them. It is a huge responsibility which they carry but I trust them implicitly and have no doubt that they have the best interests of your sons and daughters at heart.
Secondly, we track our buses via satellite surveillance on a daily basis. We monitor that they are driving at the speed limit and that the drivers are not braking unnecessarily. Seatbelts are checked and repaired on a daily basis and we have recently asked a staff member to travel on one of the buses in the mornings.
Lastly, we have ordered a new fleet of buses which will hopefully be arriving in November this year. We have purchased a 40 seater Mercedes Benz as well as another 22 seater Sprinter like the one we already have. We will hopefully be replacing the last Marco Polo bus in April next year, which will complete the fleet and depending on demand we will monitor whether we need another as 2012 unfolds.
Thank you for trusting us with transporting your sons and daughters and I assure you that we will continue to do everything we possibly can to ensure their safety as they travel to and from Plett.
