Joyous celebration of Go George’s third birthday

Birthday banners at strategic points in town, communication champions dressed up in bright GO GEORGE colours, pompoms and placards with birthday messages, noisy whistles …

If George residents and holidaymakers had not been in a festive mood already, they sure were after a drive through town on Friday, 8 December 2017, the third birthday of the GO GEORGE bus service.

Motorists cheerfully responded with joyful hooting and waving, acknowledging this huge achievement for the City of George.

The GO GEORGE team surprised the children at Life Community Services’ centre in Parkdene with a visit from everybody’s favourite bus person, mascot Georgie, and loads of blue and green cupcakes.

“There was no better way of celebrating our birthday than bringing joy to these little ones,” said James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager. “Hearing them sing ‘Happy birthday, dear GO GEORGE’ at the top of their voices, warmed our hearts and put the cherry on top of our birthday cake.”

Motorists joyfully responded to the communication champions’ invitation to hoot to celebrate GO GEORGE’s third birthday. This team were real champions, riding out Friday’s high temperatures in their costumes, getting the entire community in a festive mood
The champions spread the joy to the Garden Route Mall and Eden Meander too, with holidaymakers passing by and cheerfully hooting, never mind who or what GO GEORGE is
Several staff members from the GO GEORGE office turned up at the York Street circle, whistling and waving placards to make passing motorists smile. Thoroughly enjoying themselves are, from left, Buyisile Vanqa and Thobela Bentswana, both contract administrators, Morné Lakay, Deputy Manager, GO GEORGE, and James Robb, GO GEORGE Manager
GO GEORGE staff tagged along with mascot Georgie and had a special time visiting Life Community Services’ centre in Parkdene. The team had brought along blue and green cupcakes which they handed out to the little ones
Sitting perfectly still until the tray with cupcakes came past, these cuties could wait no longer to dig into the sweet icing
Georgie could not keep himself from quickly popping over the street to Happy Feet, Life’s early childhood development centre, where he clearly gate-crashed a pool party. The little ones waved and cheered at first, and even sang Georgie a birthday song. However, the minute he started walking in among the inflatable pools, they jumped ship and ran towards their teachers as if a shark had entered the bay! It took some Georgie charm to win their trust
