You are invited to a World AIDS Day event celebrated on December 1st with George Municipality.
It has become one of the most recognized international health days and a key opportunity to raise awareness, commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services. The theme of this year is “Access Equity Rights Now”
The George Municipality is going to celebrate World AIDS Day on the 1 December 2016. A “Race Against AIDS” awareness wall will take place from 10:30 till 12:00, from the Mount view Resort in York street to the George Municipality, Civic centre, organizations, NGO’s, schools, sports clubs will take part in this race. The community will show their support by spreading the message and their commitment to fight Prejudice against HIV and AIDS through banners.
Executive Mayor of George will light the torch in front of the Civic before the formal programme starts. The balloons and white doves will be let loose after the lightning ceremony which symbolises the Municipality’s commitment to the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Different information station from government departments and NGO’s will be available. The aim of the different station will be to do awareness:
- HIV testing’s, blood pressure, diabetes
- HIV and AIDS awareness
- NGO, businesses and departments with different information stalls
The Traffic Department as well as Law Enforcement Officers will regulate the traffic and ensure the safety of the participants.
The formal programme will start at 12:00 and will include a keynote address by the Executive Mayor the lighting of a candle, and the various motivational speakers.
