21 – 22 March 2014
If you’re a resident in Hoekwil and live along the race route, then come out and show your support! Don your sunhat, slap on some sunblock…hey, even get out the skottel and some braaivleis if you want, and cheer along the cyclists as they ride past your house on the day!
We are expecting many visitors to our little village this coming weekend. Not only is the Kingfisher MTB race going to draw in a lot of cyclists; Hoekwil’s Centenary Celebration is also going to bring in loads of visitors, so we’d like to make you aware that traffic will be disrupted over the weekend.
On Friday the 21st of March, the Kingfisher Trail Run will be taking place from 16:30. This race departs from the school fields and will only affect the corner of Duiwerivier and Kerk Street. However, there will be cars parked throughout the village, so please drive carefully.
On Saturday, the 22nd of March, the Serpentine (Hoekwil Hill) will be closed on a stop-and-go basis from 7:30 – 9am. There will also be temporary stop-and-go’s along Kerk and Duiwerivier Street from 7:30am on Saturday morning until the race finishes. Please be aware that the stop-and-go’s are only stopping traffic when cyclists are in the area. We will try our best to keep traffic flowing as steadily as possible. Please keep a look out for our Marshals along the race route.
The Cyclists will be riding along the following roads and farmland:
Serpentine (Hoekwil Hill)
Island Lake back road
Biervlei Hut on 7 Passes Road – Cyclists crossing
7 Passes Road
Bergplaas – Cyclists crossing
Mandalay Farm – Cyclists crossing
Oakhurst – Cyclists crossing
Hoekwil Primary School truly appreciates your support and patience during the Kingfisher weekend. This is our school’s main fund raiser for the year and it helps to keep our precious school going. So thanks for helping us make this day a success.
Come join in the festivities! There’s loads going on in Hoekwil this weekend.
We hope to see you there!
