GEORGE (January 2014) – What a day 31 December 2013 was! Scarlett Thomas wrote in Going out “People make events into stories. Stories give events meaning.” On 31 December 2013 the more than 1000 participants in the 11th annual Great Brak Grabadoo made this a story never to forget! People from all over South Africa took part in the Grabadoo, the biggest outdoor family event of the Garden Route holiday season. It was a family fun event which challenged brave mountain bikers with breathtaking routes through the Cape Pine forests, but also gave families the chance to enjoy a scenic walk or run.
With every event there are hard working people behind the scenes who ensure that the participants enjoy each moment in safe surroundings. The organisers of the Grabadoo are grateful to say that the 2013 Grabadoo was completed without any injuries or accidents. Thank you to Mossel Bay Municipality’s Traffic Department and PAWK Traffic Department for keeping the roads well-organized and safe.
Community members of Greenhaven in Great Brak River, Blanco in George and Stranddienste helped greatly in assisting participants, acting as marshals and guaranteeing a fun-filled family event. Every little detail was painstakingly attended to…and just to make sure all participants felt at home, fresh fruit was distributed along the route at the water points. Participants were also treated to thousands of lifestyle magazines from RNA distributors.
More than half the participants registered online or the day before the event. The bulk of enquiries were channelled through Peperboom Restaurant in Great Brak River and Johannes Bischoff of the Shell Garage in Mossel Bay. The main sponsors of the event were Powerade, Cape Pine (allowing free access to their forest roads) and Interface by Goji PR & Events.
Organising every Grabadoo takes an enormous team effort with the main goal being that participants enjoy it so much that they return the next year! This was confirmed by Fred Lingenfelder, Eden MTB Commissioner, who congratulated the organisers of the Grabadoo on another sensational Grabadoo. According to him the relaxed atmosphere and fun characteristics contribute to the success story of Grabadoo.

The next Great Brak Grabadoo will take place on 31 December 2014. Happy trails, stay safe…and we’ll see you there!
