Greetings from Sandra and Jenny
A very Happy Easter to all our Members. Please note that there will be no club draw (sorry Peter Gibbs!) this week on Friday evening, due to it being a religious holiday. Also no fires or salads will be provided. Everything will be back to normal on Friday 29 April 2011, look forward to seeing you then.
Thank you to each member who made the effort to attend the AGM on Thursday last week. The attendance register shows that 141 members signed in on the night, which we are sure is a record! In 2008 there were only 64 members present, 111 in 2009 and 102 in 2010. The numbers for attendance at the AGM are on the increase which is excellent news.
Office Bearers for 2011/2012 are as follows:
Chairman: Jonathan Monk
Captain: Kobus Landman
Vice Captain: Abrie van der Bergh
Council Members: Boet Gericke, Mike Steyn, Henry Hofman
Bryan Hockly remains as President
Below are the subscription fees that were approved:
|Type of Membership||Annual Subs||HNA card fee||SAGA Affiliation fee||Total for 2011 -2012|
Invoices for subs will be posted during the first week of May. Payment is due 30 days from date of statement. If you have not received your invoice by the middle of May, please contact the club so that we can arrange to send you a copy. As usual, we will be adding the 105 Festival Draw ticket (R200) to your invoice. Should you choose not to take a ticket for the big draw, then let us know and we will remove this item from your invoice.
Green fee bundles can be purchased from the 1st of May 2011. The change this year is, that you are no longer required to purchase 100 rounds first before being able to top up. You will be welcome to purchase 25, 50 or 100 rounds at the reduced rate. However, please note that NO sharing of rounds between players will be allowed:
Please purchase prepaid rounds at the Green Fee Clerks Desk so that the transaction can immediately reflect on your profile.
The draw for the Winter Knock Out is filling up fast, please note the first round of games are to be completed by 31 May 2011. The format is a Better Ball Match Play, with the golfer with the lowest handicap in the four ball going to scratch. The other three golfers take their shots from this player.
Those teams knocked out of the main event will then continue to compete in a plate division this year, the draw for which will go up on the notice board shortly. Please add your team names down if you suffered the indignity of a loss in the first round or in rounds further on down the line so that some pride can be avenged!
The May Monthly Mixed is scheduled for Sunday the 15th May, please make your bookings via the Bookings Office or with any of the staff at the club. At this stage you can not book via the Members Kiosk as the starting times ‘labeled’ for the Mixed (shows up as grey wording in italics); our guru’s at Club Master are currently busy writing the commands to rectify the problem. Please bear with us until this happens! Well done to the ‘Abrahamse / Otto’ team for winning the April Mixed last Sunday.
Our annual bragging day, also known as the ‘Ladies at Home’ day takes place on Tuesday 10th May 2011, and we invite all ladies with an official handicap to take part. Format is a Better Ball Stableford and cost per lady is R170, which includes green fees and a light lunch. The entry list is up on the ladies notice board, closing date for entries is Tuesday 3rd May 2011.
Should you own an iPhone or an iPad you can download the Rules of Golf and take them with you on the course every time you play.
‘The R&A’s Official Rules App for the iPhone and iPad offers you the complete package, covering every issue that can arise in a round of golf. From on-course behaviour, through a summary of the fundamental Rules, to the complete Rules of Golf (2008 – 2011), you’ll soon find the answer you’re looking for.’
Click on the link and follow the steps from the Mobile Applications paragraph.
Whilst on the subject of “Rules of Golf”, please read the press release on Score Card Disqualifications, which incidentially is effective immediately, by clicking here.
Hollow tining was a great success, thanks to warm weather and the falling of gentle rain immediately afterwards. The greens should be back to normal in approximately one week’s time, thank you all for your patience. The rough has also been mown shorter, to a height of 38mm, and now that we are going into the winter months the Kikuyu will soon be dormant, which will hopefully make it easier for us to get out of, should we inadvertently land there! The rough mower, which was approved for purchase at the AGM, will be ordered ASAP and we should take delivery of it in approximately 6 to 8 weeks.
You will see some changes to the green side bunker at the practice area, which is next to the 9th Green. We are leveling the bunker face and bringing the entire bunker closer to the practice green. Before and after images will be published in next week’s newsletter.
• Mr. Herman Meyer who was made an Honorary Member of the club at the AGM, after being a member in good standing for 51 years. Well done Herman!
• Derick Petersen Jnr on his current 6th placing on the Big Easy Series money list. Derick is coached by Roger Wessels at KeNako.
