The first Brandhouse Social league for 2011 has commenced on 27 January. As with all previous leagues a field of 28 teams is battling it out for top honors in a competition that has become synonym to fun, good sportsmanship as well as competitive bowls. It is no wonder that this league has most probably turned into the most popular Evening League within the Southern Cape.
The Greenies is currently setting the pace after the first two rounds. Kirsten and Tulleken became their first victim with a 3-22 lost while CMB only just came short in the second round by 9-11. The Greenies has 24 league points after two rounds. In a return to the Brandhouse league, DTM Nissan is chasing hard and found themselves in the overall second position on 23 points. They had an easy (14-5) win over Shirts and Giggles, followed by a well fought win of 9-8 in a brilliantly contested match against Nel’s Meubels. In the first major upset of the tournament Nel’s Meubels thrashed Glen Haven, the current Brandhouse Summer Champions, by 12 – 4. Glen Haven found themselves in an unfamiliar 15th position after two rounds and will have to improve weekly in order to get into the top three positions. The Finovo Goons are currently finding themselves in a well deserved third position.
A total of nine first entries are included in the field of 28 teams. The Grass Cleaners, Buitendagh Rahl, Kirsten and Tulleken, Incredibowls, and Inovar Flooring all find themselves in unknown territory in a competition filled with previous contestants and champions. The new teams of Aurecon, Digifusion and M Sec Security have however surprised all and find themselves under the top ten teams after round two. All have unbeaten records thus far.
With four rounds in the competition still to be played, it will be irresponsible to put money on a potentially new Brandhouse Champion. The competition is still wide open and we have become accustomed to a new team topping the scoreboard after almost every round.
It is once again a huge honor to have Brandhouse on board as main sponsor of this competition, together with Secunda Sales, M Sec Security and Mr. Meat. We believe this tournament, as with all previous Brandhouse leagues, to not only introduce new players to the lovely game of bowls, but to deliver some top players over time. Your investment into bowls can never be underestimated and the Outeniqua Bowling Club is proud to be associated with such proud sponsors.
