NMMU to stage BCom Career Expo

BCom Career Expo, 24 February 2011 – Call for corporate participants

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU), George Campus, in collaboration with the SA Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) has created a platform – the BCom Careers Expo – to introduce BCom students to prospective corporate employers and the accounting profession at large.

The 2011 NMMU George BCom Careers Expo is set to attract interest not only from auditors and auditing firms, but also from-

large corporates;

large employers;

municipalities; and

local government departments

This follows the introduction, from this year, of modules in Human Resource Management, Industrial and Organisational Psychology and Public Administration as part of the BCom General Business Management and BCom General in Economics curriculum offered at this campus.

These study offerings are in addition to the flagship BCom Accounting for Chartered Accountants, and BCom General Accounting degrees already being offered at George Campus. Through this set of first class qualifications, this new generation university in the heart of the Garden Route is poised to deliver the wide spectrum of business skills required in the region.

As part of the BCom Careers Expo, top performing 2010 BCom students will receive various awards sponsored by auditing companies and prominent role-players in the auditing industry.

Commercial companies, municipalities, government departments and other large employers interested in sponsoring, attending and /or participating in NMMU’s BCom Careers Expo are invited to contact Pieter Wicht, senior BCom lecturer and co-ordinator of the BCom programme at NMMU George.

The BCom programme offered at NMMU is one of only a few in South Africa which is fully accredited with SAICA, the professional body for the accounting profession which ensures stringent compliance with professional standards and code of conduct.

Last year NMMU BCom student, Thandi Emmink, received the Meyer Otto-trophy for the top first year BCom student from the Director of the School of Business & Social Sciences, Marianne Doubell at the 2010 Academic Merit Awards function. The Awards are based on the results of the previous academic year.
